This might be your child

You're not chasing a champion. You want them to feel okay in their own skin.

Some kids light up on a sports field. Others quietly hang back — uncertain, self-conscious, happier behind a screen. There's nothing wrong with them; they just haven't found the place where they get to feel good at something yet.

  • You want them more confident, more resilient and a bit more sure of themselves.
  • They're shy, anxious or hard on themselves, and team sport hasn't clicked.
  • You'd love to get them moving and off screens — without a fight.
  • You worry about them being compared to, or beaten by, other kids.
  • You want somewhere genuinely kind, where they can just be themselves.

How we actually help

Non-competitive by design, so there's nothing to lose.

No leaderboard, nothing to lose

What makes this work for an anxious or less sporty kid is simple: there's no leaderboard. Every movement is scaled to the child, so they're only ever measured against themselves. There's no one to lose to and nothing to fail — just their own progress, week by week.

Confidence through small wins

Confidence isn't lectured into kids — it's built through small, visible wins: a movement they couldn't do last week, a little more weight, a workout they thought was too hard. Each one is real and theirs, and they stack up. That's how a quiet kid slowly starts standing a little taller.

Why you can trust this

Coaches who lead with warmth. A room built on belonging.

We're a small, owner-led gym, so your child is known by name from day one. The program is structured and serious about coaching — and just as serious about making every kid feel welcome.

Coach Marina De Santos, a warm Kids & Teens coach at CrossFit Ulladulla
  1. A program led with intent

Scott Richardson (CrossFit Level 2) leads the Kids & Teens program with real coaching structure, so the fun always sits on top of genuine, careful teaching.

  2. Genuinely warm coaches

Marina De Santos (PE and sport-science background) and Amelia Nowlan are two of our most welcoming coaches — exactly the people you'd want encouraging a nervous kid.

  3. Measured against themselves

Everything is scaled to the individual. Kids progress at their own pace with nothing to compare and nothing to lose, so there's no pressure and no spotlight.

  4. Safe and welcoming

Small, supervised classes backed by our NSW child-safe commitment and code of conduct. A kind, structured space where it's okay to be new and okay to be quiet.

How your child would start

A gentle, low-pressure way in.

No pressure, no spotlight, no being thrown in. Here's exactly how it goes from your first message to your child feeling at home.

  1. Enquire

Leave your details and tell us your child's age and a little about them. A coach calls you back — gently, no pressure at all.

  2. A chat about your child

We talk through what they're like, what they enjoy and anything they're nervous about, so we can make their first visit as comfortable as possible.

  3. A low-pressure first class

They come along to the right Kids or Teens class and simply have a go. Everything is scaled, the room is kind, and there's nothing to get wrong.

  4. Settle in

When they're ready, lock in a term or casual plan. If you're eligible, the NSW Active Kids voucher brings term plans down to as little as $24.99.

Let's clear the air

The honest answers to what you're worried about.

  • “Will they be pushed too hard or embarrassed?”

No. Everything is scaled to your child and a coach sets the pace with them, not at them. There's no audition, no spotlight and no being singled out — just quiet, steady encouragement to do their own version of the work.

  • “What if they're not sporty or competitive?”

Then this is exactly for them. These classes aren't about being the best in the room — they're about your child getting a bit better than they were last week. Plenty of our kids don't play any other sport, and that's completely fine.

  • “Will they be compared to or beaten by other kids?”

There's nothing to win, so there's nothing to lose. We deliberately don't run leaderboards in these classes. Every kid works at their own level, and the only progress that matters is their own.

  • “Is it welcoming and safe for a shy or anxious kid?”

Yes — that's the whole point. Classes are small, the coaches are genuinely warm, and the room runs on encouragement. It's all backed by our NSW child-safe commitment and code of conduct, so you can relax too.

My daughter is shy and team sport never suited her. Here she's not being compared to anyone, so she actually tries. She came home buzzing the first time she got a movement she'd been stuck on — I hadn't seen her that proud in ages.
