Strong for Life · 55+

Stay strong, mobile and independent.

You don't need to chase anyone half your age. You need to keep doing your own life — carrying the shopping, getting off the floor, keeping your balance, travelling, gardening — under your own steam, for as long as possible. That's exactly what we coach.

A CrossFit Ulladulla member training strength in a coached BodyTone class

This is you

You're not trying to win anything. You're trying to stay capable.

Around Milton-Ulladulla you're in good company — this is one of the oldest, most active corners of NSW. You've seen what happens when people let strength quietly slip away, and you've decided that's not going to be you.

  • You want to stay independent — your house, your car, your own two feet.
  • You've noticed things getting a little harder: stairs, jars, the bottom shelf.
  • Balance and confidence on your feet matter more to you than a six-pack.
  • You'd train tomorrow if you were sure it was safe and actually for you.
  • You don't want to be the oldest person in a room full of 25-year-olds.

How we actually solve this

We train for the next forty years, not the next forty days.

A CrossFit Ulladulla coach scaling a strength movement for an older member

Everything is scaled to you

Every single movement is scaled to you — not to a class, not to a leaderboard, but to your body, your history and whatever you're working around. A squat can be to a box; a deadlift can be a light kettlebell from a raised block. We meet you exactly where you are on day one and build from there.

Coached, never just supervised

A coach watches how you move, corrects what needs correcting, and decides when you've earned a little more. Technique comes first and intensity is earned — nothing thrown away for a faster time. This isn't a watered-down 'seniors' class; it's real strength training that keeps muscle, bone and balance, at a load that's right for you.

Why you can trust this

Specialist coaches. A long-game philosophy.

We're a small, owner-led gym — not a franchise and not a machine-lined fitness chain. The coaches learn your name, your goals and your limits, and they're genuinely qualified to look after a body that's been around a while.

CrossFit Ulladulla's certified coaches working alongside members on the gym floor
  1. An over-40s specialist

Coach Matt Williams is an accredited sports nutritionist and strength coach who specialises in helping people over 40 build strength and stay capable for decades. This is his actual area.

  2. Properly certified coaching

Head coaches Alan Silva (CrossFit Level 3) and Scott Richardson (Level 2) write structured, in-house programming. You're coached by qualified people, not pointed at a whiteboard.

  3. Scaled by design

Every movement has an easier and a harder version built in. Beginners and seasoned members train side by side — same intent, different load. Nobody is singled out.

  4. Technique first, always

Intensity is earned once movement is sound. We never trade your form for a faster time, which is precisely how you train hard for decades instead of getting hurt in a month.

What you'd actually do here

A clear, unhurried path in.

No surprises, no being thrown in the deep end. Here's exactly how it goes from first contact to training regularly.

  1. Free consultation

We sit down and talk — your goals, your history, any injuries or niggles. No workout, no pressure. We just listen and prescribe a sensible starting point.

  2. Fundamentals

A short onboarding (two sessions — group $99 or private $160) where we teach the core movements and show you exactly how scaling works. You start confident, not overwhelmed.

  3. BodyTone or scaled CrossFit

BodyTone is our lower-impact strength and shape class, two days a week — a natural home for this. Or step into a fully-scaled CrossFit class. We'll guide you to the right fit.

  4. Train regularly

Settle into a rhythm on a membership that suits you — 2 Classes Per Week ($38.50/wk) or Unlimited ($55/wk). Two good sessions a week is genuinely enough to start.

Let's clear the air

The honest answers to what you're thinking.

  • “Isn't CrossFit going to hurt me?”

Injuries come from bad loading and no coaching — not from movement itself. Here, the load is scaled to you and a coach is watching every session. We build strength gradually and deliberately. Done this way, training is one of the safest, most protective things you can do for an older body.

  • “I'm too old for this.”

You're precisely the right age for it. Strength, balance and muscle are the things that decline with age unless you train them — and they respond at any age. The members who get the most out of this are often the ones who started later than they wish they had.

  • “Won't everyone there be a 25-year-old athlete?”

No. We're a community gym in a region full of active over-60s, and our classes reflect that. You'll train alongside people of every age and stage — and because everything is scaled, nobody is comparing loads. BodyTone in particular draws exactly the people you're picturing yourself with.

  • “What if I embarrass myself?”

Everybody starts somewhere, and our coaches and members know it. There's no audition and no spotlight — just people quietly getting on with their own training and cheering each other on. The hardest part is walking in the first time. After that you'll wonder what you waited for.

I came in convinced I'd be the oldest, weakest person there. Two years on I'm carrying my own kayak down to the water and getting up off the floor without thinking about it. I just feel capable again.
