Coach
Deua Reader.
Two years training on our floor before stepping up to coach. Deua brings an artist's eye for detail and a mountain biker's approach to practice - breaking movement down and building it back better.
The story
Movement as a craft.
Deua found CrossFit Ulladulla two years ago, and starting was one of the best things that ever happened to him. He's always needed to get his energy out and have something physical to focus on and progress at - and before CFU that need lived on a mountain bike, deep in enduro, downhill and skatepark riding. All of it took mental fortitude and a lot of physical practice: breaking movements down, working technique, and thinking hard about the line or the trick.
That same eye for detail runs through his creative life. Deua works professionally in branding and bespoke illustration - a craft built on loving the process, weighing every variable and looking at things from different perspectives. He seeks out personal refinement, trusts the process, and lets that authentic approach flow into everything else he does.
CrossFit sharpened all of it. He noticed the demand for mental resilience straight away - arguably as important as physical capability - and fell for the practice, practice, and more practice of getting a movement right. Doing the things you don't want to do, and getting your head around them anyway, taught him the value of discipline and consistency. Now he coaches to pass that on: to help people find their why, and to show them they're capable of far more than they think.
What I coach
Practice first, capability follows.
Where Deua makes the biggest difference.
-
Breaking down movement
Technique broken into learnable pieces - the same way he read a bike line, now applied to the barbell.
-
Mental resilience
The head game of training: doing the hard thing anyway, and getting your mind around it one rep at a time.
-
Discipline & consistency
Holding yourself accountable to the goals you set and the things you say you'll do - one week at a time.
-
Finding your "why"
Encouragement that helps people see their reason for training, and how much more they're capable of than they think.
